Briana Sewell is a lifelong Virginian, born and raised in Prince William County. The daughter of high school sweethearts from Selma, Alabama, Briana comes from a proud military family. Both of her parents honorably served our country in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years. From an early age, they instilled in her the values of integrity, hard work, and service to others. Briana and her family moved to the Republic of Panama when she was two years old. After spending three years stationed in Panama, she and her family returned to Woodbridge, Virginia, the place Briana has always called home.
As a graduate of Prince William County Public Schools, Briana excelled academically in the International Baccalaureate Program and athletically, on the soccer field. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from the College of William & Mary and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from American University.
While many of her peers pursued careers in big cities, Briana chose a different path. She returned home to Prince William County with a deep commitment to public service and a desire to make a difference in the community that raised her. Briana began her career as District Director for Congressman Gerry Connolly, where she led local community outreach and ensured high-quality constituent services for families across the district.
In 2018, Briana helped launch the Virginia Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy, bringing people together to advance policies that benefit working families including paid family and medical leave, affordable child care, workforce training and eldercare support. She remains deeply committed to these policies, knowing that when working families thrive, the entire economy prospers.
In 2021, Briana ran for the House of Delegates in one of Virginia’s most competitive districts. Despite being told the race was unwinnable, she built a grassroots campaign and earned the trust of her community. Briana made history as one of the youngest women ever elected to the Virginia General Assembly. In her first term, she delivered real results by passing bipartisan legislation that supports military families and veterans, reduces classroom overcrowding, and strengthens protections for child victims of sexual assault. She continues to deliver real results.
Briana’s approach to public service is simple: listen, lead, and deliver. She understands the challenges Virginians face because she’s lived them. She understands the everyday challenges Virginians face because she has lived them. Her leadership has earned national recognition, including being named one of twenty rising leaders across the country for her dedication to service and advocacy.
Now, Briana is running for re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates. She is committed to putting people first and delivering real results for real Virginians. She continues to fight for the kitchen table issues that matter most to working families – affordable housing, high-quality public education, accessible child care, and good-paying jobs. She is a fierce defender of fundamental rights, including the freedom to vote and a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.
For Briana, public service isn’t just a job – it’s a promise to keep working for a stronger, more prosperous Virginia for everyone.
